Sheriff’s Office Reorganization

On January 7th, 2019, outgoing Sheriff Al McNeil will administer the Oath of Office to Sheriff Elect Frank Hunewill. 

With the changing of guard will also come a reorganization of the Sheriff’s Office effective January 7th, as approved by the Lyon County Board of Commissioners at their board meeting on December 6th, 2018.

Sheriff-Elect Hunewill requested the elimination of three Bureau Commander positions, the Administrative Services Manager position and a Sergeant’s position.

The reorganization calls for the creation of an Undersheriff position, two Captain’s positions, an Office Supervisor position and a Lieutenant’s position.

In addition to eliminating and creating new positions, changes to the Management Pay Plan were also proposed.  Adding the Undersheriff position to the D2 pay range and the Captain’s position to the D1 pay range would amend the Management Pay Plan.  Additionally, the Commander position would be removed from the D2 pay range.

County Manager Jeff Page informed the board of the sheriff-elect’s meetings with the comptroller, the human resources director and himself.  All agree with his desire to effect the reorganization.

According to Page, the request is budget neutral and he recommended the approval.

The motion passed unanimously. 

Attempts to reach Sheriff-Elect Hunewill for comment on his reorganization plans have been unsuccessful.
